Airlines made to pay compensation
Travellers will be entitled to compensation for cancelled or delayed flights from February 17. New European legislation, aimed at dissuading airlines from excessive overbooking, will mean passengers whose flights are cancelled for commercial reasons (such as not enough passengers on board) will be entitled to compensation in addition to refunds and re-routing. At the moment, airlines are not obliged to offer compensation.

Big is not always better ? even for high flyers
Sir ? call me an old cynic, but I very much doubt if the new Airbus A380 will have the luxurious accommodation (report, Jan 19) that many say it will or that, if it does, it will not have it for long. Commercial pressures will see airlines pushing in as many seats as they can.
